Bali is a love story waiting to be explored and by that, I mean finding your place in sync with the beauty of this place. It has a fabulous arts and café culture, and it is a wellness and holistic paradise.
There is a large community of foreigners or expatriates living in here. If you are a remote worker and looking for somewhere else to make home, Bali is the place for you.
Where to stay in Bali:
I think there are a lot of lovely areas such as (Canggu, Nusa Dua and Uluwatu) to stay in Bali. However, Ubud and Seminyak has to be top on your list.
Ubud
Ubud is the cultural center of Bali, it is surrounded by rice paddies and famous for its Hindu temples, arts and crafts. This is the perfect location for you to put aside all your stresses, relax, live in the moment and just enjoy.
In Ubud, I stayed at the gorgeous Bambu Indah where I disconnected from the world and just relaxed. I left this amazing resort totally refreshed and you can read a review of Bambu Indah on cntraveler.com.
People usually ask Kuta or Seminyak but this depends on the type of holiday you are after. Kuta is the cheaper, less posh, party center and possibly the Benidorm of Bali. While Seminyak is the upscale and lush version of Kuta. Both towns are close to each other, so which ever you choose, it is easy for you to zip across.
What to do in Ubud:
- Ubud Palace – this was the official residence of the royal family, but it is now a tourist destination. At nights, the palace comes alive and almost every night, dance events are held here.
- Sacred Monkey Forest – this is a nature reserve sitting alongside a Hindu temple. You can spend a few hours here, observing the monkeys if this is up your street. However, beware of the monkeys, as they will climb and steal from you if they smell food.
- Ubud Art Market – this is an outdoor market filled with artisans and sellers selling locally made arts and crafts items. Here, you will be able to pick up home décor items, pieces of furniture, coffee, clothing and eco items. Personally, I bought some items from this market such as bamboo straws, plates and bags that I treasure.
- Rice fields – have a quick stop at a rice field for pictures and just to enjoy the scenery.
Seminyak
Seminyak for me is a destination not to miss in Bali as the beach is unspoilt and it looks endless in both directions. The view here is to die for, it pulls you in and it will surely entice you to stay forever. This is the perfect place to have a lounge day on the beach in one of the beach clubs, surfing, watching sunset and eating dinner on the beach.
There are lots of luxury and affordable luxury hotels to stay In Seminyak or you could even rent a villa. I stayed at the Montigo Resort & Spa and honestly, this is the best night sleep I have every had in my life. If I could, I would have brought the mattress I slept on, back to the UK with me (it was that good).
What to do in Seminyak:
- Beach club – Seminyak is known for its beautiful coastline and while you are here spending a day at the beach club is an ideal way to enjoy yourself. You can stay on the bean bags or sun loungers while sipping cocktail and eating. If you prefer, you can get a cabana (for a minimum spend) at the club. Check out Potato Head, I had a good time here and the food was very good.
- Scuba diving – there are dive schools in Bali and a few dive spots a short boat ride away. If you like to dive or want to learn then you should definitely do it here.
- Yoga – Bali is a yoga haven and Seminyak taps into this nicely so why don’t you relax and get your chakras aligned.
Verdict: If you are looking for where to go and you haven’t been to Bali yet, book that ticket. The Island is amazing, and you will enjoy your time there.
Pro-tip: Avoid going to Bali during peak or holiday periods. It is a little island and during these times, it is bursting at the seams with people and there is a lot of traffic.
This is such an exciting holiday, have fallen in love with Bali already, especially seminyak, will love to spend my holiday there.
Haha! Hope you get the chance to visit someday.
I really hope so too
